Take Me Out the Ballgame…

I love baseball, and I love baseball history.  And, even though I spent my night watching history being made (Way to go Trevor!), we have a great opportunity to actually see some baseball history reenacted!

The Journal Sentinel published a story about the old time baseball league and old time baseball food.  (There aren’t any hot dogs here!)

Currently, there are a few 1800s baseball reenactors that play around the area.  I’ve been to a few games and they are certainly very interesting and fun to watch!

Some of the players wanted to roll up their sleeves. Would the ladies give their consent?

It’s been awhile since baseball was so polite. Like, a century or so.

But at Vintage Base Ball games, including those played by Milwaukee area teams, the rules of the 1860s are in play – back when it was a gentleman’s game.

Similar to Civil War re-enactors, the players dress like ballists of yore, sport nicknames like “Night Owl,” “Sarge” and “Professor” and use thick bats and soft baseballs that were easier to catch bare-handed, considering the first gloves were not used until the 1870s.

The article continues to talk about the food that spectators may have had during the games.

At the end of the article is a schedule of games that feature the reenactors.  There is a game scheduled for October 16th at Ronald Reagan Elementary School.  The game is free!

Infinite Campus

Hello Parents and Students,

Please have a little patience when it comes to Infinite Campus.  I am working with Mrs. Leonhardt so we are in sync in terms of expectations and grades.  Therefore, the gradebook hasn’t been set up just yet.

I hope to have it up as soon as possible!

Thanks for your understanding!

Another Oil Rig Explodes

The Washington Post is reporting that another oil rig has exploded off the coast of Louisiana around 9:30 this morning.  This oil rig is west of the one that exploded in April, causing the massive oil spill that continues to hurt the Gulf Coast region.

BP Oil Spill

As information continues to surface about the most recent incident, should we begin reevaluating drilling in the Gulf of Mexico?  What kind of problems could an additional oil spill create?
